"At the age of 12 I started to feel like I was overweight. Soon, an eating disorder took over my life."

I went on a diet but it soon turned horribly wrong. I stopped eating around others and I started to restrict everything that I ate. I started to feel really bad and only ate dinner each day even though I was doing so much exercise with my Irish dancing, gymnastics and school work.

I then had to move schools and that was so sad as I had to leave my good friends. I am a very shy person - it was so hard for me to make new friends at the new school. This added to the stress in my life and my eating went from bad to worse. We had to do an assignment at school on eating disorders.

My Mum got very worried and sent me to see a counsellor.

From there I was referred to a psychologist, a doctor and a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist diagnosed me with anorexia nervosa, restricting type and social anxiety disorder. I was also self-harming. I had days where I was really sad and anxious and my eating disorder was taking over my life. My doctor suggested Kids Helpline and I contacted them via email and web counselling. It has helped me so much with day-to-day life and I don't know if my recovery would be as far as it is without them. They really are amazing. If you have been through anything like what I have been through, I strongly recommend that you contact Kids Helpline.
