Chat online to a Kids Helpline counsellor

Just like DM-ing, but with a professional counsellor.

If you can't get to a phone or prefer to chat online, Webchat is for you! Connect one-on-one with a Kids Helpline counsellor on your phone, computer or other preferred device. It's free to talk - all you need is internet access.

Webchat counselling is only available in Australia. To find a service in your country, check out Child Helpline International.

How does webchat counselling work?

Starting off

You’ll first get some info about confidentiality, privacy and our Duty of Care (check out our privacy policy and FAQ section for more info).

Next, you’ll be asked to fill out a short questionnaire to help us understand how best to help you. You’ll then go into our queue - you may have to wait, depending on how busy it is.

You’ll then be connected to one of our counsellors who’ll look over your questionnaire responses and begin the counselling session.

Webchat wait times...

Webchat can be very popular - which means you may have to wait before a counsellor is available. In the evenings, this can be up to 40-50 minutes.

If you're happy to wait, we'll let you know when a counsellor is ready. Otherwise you can try phone counselling or come back at another time when it's not so busy - it's entirely up to you!
