At first when people found out I was bisexual, they just thought I was in denial about being gay. I started to like another boy around my age. It wasn't easy... he didn't want anything to do with me and didn't want to talk to me after finding out that I liked him. That was the hardest part. Luckily I've had very supportive friends, but my family still don't know.

I couldn't talk to my friends about anything - they didn't understand. My parents divorced and it changed my life, and not for the better. I was forced to stay at my dad's house. He was never there. It hurt because he just couldn't be bothered with me. I failed nearly all my assessment pieces, all I felt was stress, stress, stress!

She made me feel bad in every way possible. She even turned everyone against me - all the people I used to call my friends became my enemies! I hated my life and wanted to kill myself. It took some time, but I finally went to the school counsellor who told me about Kids Helpline.

It's really difficult to talk about, especially if you aren't heterosexual. At school, I could never get changed in front of other girls without getting really nervous. I distanced myself from other people because I was worried about what they would say. My father thought I was lying and just trying to be 'cool'.

They took my happiness away and made me feel like I was small and insignificant. People always tried to tell me that it would get better, that there was a light at the end of the tunnel. But I never believed them – instead, I always believed the people that threw words at me like they didn’t hurt.
