Feeling sad over the holidays
Holidays!
No school, no homework, and more time to do the things you love – holidays are fun! But sometimes they're not all they're cracked up to be…
Family time can lead to arguments
You might be spending more time with family at home, travelling or staying with relatives. That means you might get upset, angry or argue more often. It’s ok – it happens in lots of families!
Boredom on holidays
Or you might be spending more time alone or at home… which could be really boring! You could start missing your friends and school.
Feeling down but not sure why?
Sometimes you might feel strange and not know why… that can happen when you don’t have a normal routine (like you do when you’re at school).
Come up with some fun ideas!
When you're bored, get somebody to help you figure out what you can do to pass the time. It might be doing art, playing a game, going outside or dancing!
If you feel sad, talk to somebody
When you feel upset it’s a good idea to find somebody to talk to about it. Telling them how you feel can help you feel better. Try a parent, an adult you trust or a Kids Helpline counsellor.
Getting some alone time
If your family is fighting or it feels hard being around them, it’s ok to take a break. Listen to some music or do some drawing by yourself. Just remember to tell an adult where you’re going!
